If you've read my green smoothie inspiration you'll know our recent adventure into the world of green smoothies has begun with a splash. And true to our kitchen creative nature we had to do some tinkering with the basic green smoothie recipe from the video.
We've discovered the fun and versatility of making green smoothies, and to my surprise we now have kids who can't wait to eat their green leafy vegetables - who would have thunk.
So here it is folks, drum roll please... our first green smoothie recipe dubbed by our 4 year old... The smoothie you can chew.
Green Smoothie Recipe #1: The Smoothie You Can Chew
1 Mango (minus what you sample while cutting - so probably a half mango)
1 Banana
3 Strawberries
3 Broccoli florets
Handful of fresh Spinach leaves
2-3 Green Kale leaves
1-2 basil leaves
1 Tbsp Flax seed
Splash of Pomegranate Kefir
10-12 ounces of water or to desired thickness
Blend that baby up and enjoy some vibrant green goodness - Don't worry you don't really need to chew it. (unless of course you have a dull blender...)

It’s nice to come across a recipe that has core ingredients available locally. Living on a remote tropical island does have its drawbacks, but in this case there are close alternatives that will do just as well, and the strawberries are occasionally imported from a mountainous region. Many thanks for the idea.
Thanks for such beautiful recipie.
This sounds me really delicious and tasty.I will be more than happy to make it and enjoy with friends.
I love that you got the kids involved in making smoothies! As long as you are around to supervise and make sure they aren’t sticking their hands into the blender, it is a great activity for the family!
One thing you might want to do is to freeze the mango, strawberries, and banana to help cool the smoothie and thicken it a bit too.

Thanks for the great recipe list, we just tried a new one this morning with a bit of broccoli, cauliflower, kale, bananas and frozen strawberries. And you are right using some frozen fruit helps keep it cool.

That sounds like a great way to get your daily dose of vegies
One question though – where do you buy your flax seed? I’ve purchsed Flax Seed Oil from health food stores before, because I’ve read about its many health benefits. I don’t think I’ve ever seen raw flax seed before.
Yes it sure makes getting enough veggies much easier.
I always get my flax seed from the natural foods section of the grocery store, you should be able to find it in many regular grocery stores even if they don’t have a “natural foods or organic” section, I think I’ve even seen it at Target. You can use the ground flax seed for tons of things besides smoothies and it is a great source of Omega-3 fats.

Thanks for the recipe I really dislike eating my way through the amount of vegies I know I need to have and I tried your recipe and love it . Tasty plus good for me and I even managed to get my wife to have a try and got her hooked as well. I actually add ice to as I prefer it chilled

I agree it is a super easy way to get all those nutrients without actually having to eat your veggies.
I like it a bit chilled as well – If you use frozen fruit it helps keep it cool. We picked some fresh strawberries this past summer so we have several bags frozen – makes a great addition to a green smoothie.
